Shaving Your Head (2)
Previous pageYou could donate your hair to a cancer foundation, so kids can have wigs if they happen to lose their hair. Or you could be a St. Baldrick’s shavee by shaving your head and raising money for the foundation. It's an extremely selfless thing, and if you ever miss your hair, think about what you are doing and who you are doing it for. Singer Kellie Pickler shaved her head to support someone close to her battling cancer, and that is super admirable. That could give you a legitimate and valid reason.
Have Fun Doing It!
If you are in a relationship and your partner is looking to shave his or her head but might be a little nervous, why not join in and make it a couple’s event? Seriously. You guys can pick up clippers and do each other’s hair like Smith did with Samantha on “Sex and the City” or go to the barber together. It is a way to show your love and bond but much less permanent than getting a tattoo, let's be real.
How to
If you do decide to go completely bald, I have learned that there is no rule against shaving your head every day. As long as you are using a top-notch razor, as you would with extremely gentle and delicate parts of your body that you shave, along with great shaving cream, you should be good to go.
But do not use a dull blade or someone else's razor ever! You do not want to risk cutting yourself or getting an infection, which could be worse. Waxing is not completely frowned upon as it will last longer so you won't have to do it every day. However, you will be more prone to ingrown hairs. You have to weigh the pros and cons and think about if you can handle going one or two days without shaving your head.
If shaving your head is something you are considering, you can do what I did and meet the clippers without going completely bald. Shave the side of your head or underneath your hair, so you can feel the adrenaline that goes along with the buzzer without going all the way.
You may realize that you love the feeling and chop it all off or you may say: “that's enough” like Demi Lovato and Kelly Osbourne did and that is quite all right too. Whatever level of buzzing you choose to do is great because it shows your bravery and how much of a risk-taker you are.
And if your partner is going in for the buzz cut, for whatever reason and you want to be supportive, these last options I posed can help with the situation; keeping you a supportive without having to throw all your hair into the ring. And for men, this is a great option if you are looking for ways to change up your man bun or longer locks but cannot envision having short hair. Men can have hair pride too; it's all good.
In any case, good luck and enjoy the newfound freedom!
