How to Grow Long Hair as a Man (2)
Previous pageAs the length continues to grow, say around below your ear, you will want to make sure that you always comb your hair out before you take a shower. Why? Because you don't want to get in the shower with any knots or tangles, as hair is quite fragile.
It is also suggested that you wash your hair daily, but that does not mean shampooing every day, as we know that over-shampooing can lead to dry and brittle hair that lacks natural oils. Try to shampoo two to three times a week, but always condition and invest in leave-in conditioners and serums as well.
Your hair won't always be the same length all around, so invest in ponytail holders, but not rubber bands, as they pull at the hair. Use coated hair ties and avoid tight ponytails and hats as this can tug at the hair and leave little short frayed hairs at the hairline.
Aim for a trim every six to eight weeks but go to a trusted stylist who knows what your end goal is and will not butcher you so you have to start all over again. As with all longer hair and really hair in general, always treat chlorinated locks. Don't let them go too long without washing and try to use hair sunscreen so you can have the hair of the likes of Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp, Ben Barnes, and Ashton Kutcher, just to name a few.
And again, don't be afraid of the man bun; it will become your best friend on those very hot and humid days when your hair may be out of control or at an wkward length that's driving you crazy. Yes, it will have its awkward moments and yes, you will be tempted to cut it short again but there is a reason why you chose now to let your hair grow and honestly, I think that some men look great with long hair. They do not look dirty or unkempt but rather dashing and like this wild creature that needs to be tamed.
I also think that there are so many ways for men to style their hair when it is long that you can pretty much have any profession and get away with it and that is something new and exciting that I love. So go for it; live a little and grow your hair out. Good luck and happy growing!
