How to Cut a Long Bob (2)

7. You’ll start moving around the model’s head by this stage. First cut the back according to the weight line, When you’re satisfied with that, move to the one side, and cut this section in unison with the length of the weight line at the back. Start from the back and move to the front, thus from nape forwards to the ear. Repeat this on the other side of the model’s head as well.

8. Again pinch the hair on both sides of the model’s head in between your thumb and fore-finger. Slide your hands slowly down the length of the hair, until your hands reach the tips of the hair. Your hands should be in perfect unison, to ensure that both sides of the cut are even.

It’s important that you continually check the corresponding length of the hair. It’s easy to correct uneven angles if you spot it immediately. If you cut your while style in an uneven fashion, it will be extremely hard to correct the cut.

9. Loosen the hair on top of the head, and draw out a parting that allows all the hair at the back to hang down. You’re now completing the cutting of the hair at the back of the model’s head. Cut all the hair in line with the weight line at the back. Make sure that no curves or angles are present along the weight line.

10. Draw a middle parting and comb all the hair in a downwards direction. The hair should now hang down in the way that it would naturally hang without being styled. Cut and check that the front ends are symmetrical. Check the rest of the hair along the circumference of the model’s head. There should be no angles or curves along the weight line of the hair. If you do see longer hair, cut it accordingly.

11. Ask your model to lower her chin towards her chest. Comb the hair at the back of her head flat onto her scalp and down the nape of her neck. There may be some hooks and angles of hair visible along the nape of her neck now. Cut the hair into a solid even line. Ask her to look up again, and comb the hair back into place. The weight line should still be straight and even.

12. Start checking vertical sections of hair on the top of the head. Cut minimal amounts of hair here, literally just to get rid of curves or hooks along the weight line of the tips of the hair. Repeat this along the width of the top of the model’s hair. Do not cut too much hair here, as you’ll end up with a layered cut, and not a long bob.

Check vertical hair sections of two inches 13. Draw out a square section of hair along the lines of the crown of the model, and secure this section with a clip. Comb the rest of the hair in a downward direction so that it hangs down in a natural manner.

14. Check vertical sections of two inches along the circumference of the head. Again cut only minimal amounts of hair to ensure the line along the tips of the hair is even. Do not cut too much hair, as this will create a layered cut instead of a long bob.

You may also minimally make use of thinning shears during this stage, if your model’s hair is very thick. Don’t overdo the thinning-out.

15. Apply blow-drying lotion and a heat-protection before styling as desired.
