Trim Layers

Q: I have got a layered haircut for the very first time in my life. How often should I get the layers trimmed?

A: That depends on whether you’re still growing your hair or if you want to keep you hair in the style that it is now.

If you’re still growing your hair, you can have it cut once every four to six months, as long as the hair is healthy, especially the ends. If you have split ends, have it trimmed.

Contrary to popular belief, hair does not actually grow faster when it is cut once a month. I don’t know where this myth started, but it’s really not true. If you want to keep your hair in the style that it is now, you’ll probably have to get your hair cut once every two or three months.

Hair grows at an average rate of about 0.5 inch per month. Thus longer hair won’t look drastically out of style if you leave it a few months before having it cut again.

A safe bet would be that if it’s healthy, you only have to have it cut once it starts irritating you or doesn’t appear to be cut in style anymore. Enjoy your new layers!
