Hairstyles to Appear Shorter

Q: I'm a little taller than my boyfriend. What color and length of hair will make me appear shorter?

A: While hair color won't really influence the visual effect of your body's length, you can manipulate it greatly with a hairstyle.

Oblong styles easily make one look taller, and in effect thinner. Think high bubbles, beehive-styles and up styles. As you want to appear shorter, let's concentrate on that. Try styles that do not have extra height on top of the head.

A good style is a bob or angled bob with bangs. There is no extra volume on top of the head, thus eliminating the effect of added length. The bangs create a definite horizontal line close to your top-point, thus shortening the overall picture.

The medium length hair will also suit your needs, as very long hair tends to make one look thinner and again taller. Think of the Amazonian-goddess length of Victoria Secret models. What do most of them have in common except jaw-dropping beauty and height? Their stunningly long and wavy hair. Long hair makes one look even taller.

Blonde is also a good choice of hair color if you prefer your focal point to be something other than your height. Studies have shown that although men do not actually prefer blondes above women with other hair colors as long term partners, blondes do get noticed before women with other hair colors.

There are many theories for this, but it stands to show that your hair color will be noticed before your actual height. Just make sure that blonde will suit your complexion before you make the change.
