Q: What are the advantages (and disadvantages) of the Keratin Complex smoothing therapy by Coppola? Did you ever work with it and would you recommend it?

A: I haven't worked with the product, and frankly the company's official product website offers precious little information on the product, its ingredients, or anything other than having you sign up for their mailing and ordering their system. There are, however, several professional's forums that have had long discussions on the subject of this product with some mixed opinions.

Some claim that the Coppola Keratin Complex treatment is a copy of the Brazilian Keratin Treatment which uses formaldehyde in its process and has been cited as causing respiratory issues and irritation in both clients and stylists.

The Coppola company has stated that they don't have raw formaldehyde. "We have a derivative called aldehydes, which is safer and more natural. We hooked up with a French chemist who gave us the nanotechnology so we don't have a dangerous toxin airborne. Aldehydes encapsulates in the molecules. No fumes come up."

In spite of the official statement, some users have complained of the fumes from the process, though they are agreed to be less than the Brazilian process causes.

I will confess that the idea of the product is tempting, and I would be interested in giving it a try. However, I want to make sure that the process is going to be safe for the hair and for my clients before I offer it to them.
