Uneven Bob Haircut

Uneven bob haircut with one shorter side

Q: I got my hair cut in a bob, but it is uneven! One side is longer than the other. My boyfriend thinks it’s funny, and he likes the look, but I’m in shock. What happened? This was my first visit to this salon. Are they that bad at cutting hair?

A: This actually occurs much more often than you’d think! But it’s really not a train wreck, and if it bothers you, you should go back and ask the stylist to cut the sides even.

The most common mistake is that the stylist doesn’t make sure that the client sits straight-up, with her head perfectly level. Most people naturally sit with their head bent slightly to one side or the other. This means that the lengths of the sides of a cut look level to the stylist, when in reality it is not.

It has happened to virtually every stylist, more often than not when the salon is super busy and the stylist is rushed and pressed for time.

Your hairdresser would much rather have you come back so that she can fix it within a minute or two than having you stay away or be unhappy with the cut.

Asymmetrical cuts are really cool, but if you’d prefer a normal bob, just go back and have the stylist do her/his thing.
