Oprah’s Great American Haircut
Chicago, Illinois, USA – When daytime television diva, Oprah Winfrey, sets out to do something, she doesn’t take
half-measures. This is evidenced by her recent Oprah show episode, entitled “Oprah’s Great American Haircut” in which the talk show
goddess converted one of her Harpo studios into a fully-functional salon and brought in five celebrity stylists to man the stations.
The challenge: to perform 100 makeovers in just 48 hours.
Stylists to the stars, Ken Paves, Rita Hazan, Harry Josh, Ted Gibson, and Kimberly Kimble were selected
for the challenge for their expertise, creativity and diverse specializations. Together the team managed to change the looks – and in
some cases, the very lives – of 99 women, and one man.
This event is all part of Oprah’s efforts to raise awareness of Cancer issues among women, and the
show included a visit with Hilary Swank who spent six months growing and treating her hair with TLC in order to have it cut to
donate to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths campaign, which takes donated hair and makes wigs for cancer patients.
You can check out the details of the show and see before and after photos of all 100 makeover
participants by visiting Oprah’s website here.

Host A Cut-A-Thon And Save A Child
Pivot Point International - One of the leading names in education and tools for the Hairdressing industry is making
an effort to try and raise awareness and funds for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Pivot Point International
is encouraging salons and stylists nationwide to host “Cut-A-Thons” to benefit the NCMEC and offers online resources to help these
salons and individuals plan, promote and proceed with the events.
The push is being made right now because May 25th is National Missing Children’s Day, and while the
hope is that events will be organized to take advantage of this coinciding observance, Pivot Point is encouraging salons to hold
these events whenever they can. In addition to benefitting a wonderful organization, Cut-a-Thons can be a way for businesses to
boost low-income months and improve their PR standing in their communities.
For more information on Pivot Point’s “Cut-A-Thon” program, including access to posters, flyers,
